Van Introduces Cub Scouts To Race Car Construction

The Cub Scout Troop , 2nd Year Webelos-Pack 4, of Lydia, Louisiana, visited Mr. Van Johnson's Workshop to observe the building of his race car and the many parts and equipment used in building his car.  The troop learned the safety aspects of drag racing as well as shop safety.  Mr. Johnson demonstrated how drivers are strapped down in a race car and proper safety equipment found in and around the race car.  Each scout was given the opportunity to get strapped in the seat.  The guys asked lots of questions and were very interested in learning about legal drag racing.  The drag racing tires (slicks) were a big hit.  As a result of this visit, the troop is planning a field trip the drag strip very soon.

The  cub scouts enjoyed the visit very much.  The interest level was very high and they liked everything they saw.   I think the parents enjoyed the presentation more then the boys!  Van has a way with this group, they love him.  They can't wait to see the car finished (me too).
Mrs. Stella Johnson
