At the annual election meeting, held in January 2006, Skip choose not to
run for president of Bracket Masters Racing Team again and stepped down as president/secretary/treasurer. Skip was elected to the single office of
Treasurer. Skip remains the Webmaster for
bracketmasters.com web site which makes Mr. Skip a lot less busy in the
organization.
February 5, 2005
- The 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge awarded Skip
their "Portrait of Caring" award for voluntary work at Glen Oaks High School
and working with the Jr. Dragster Kids of Bracket Masters. The award
was presented by Mrs. Jacqui Vines, President of Cox Communications Baton
Rouge, who co-sponsors the award. This took place at the 100 Black Men
Annual Mardi Gras Gala, which is a black tie affair, at the River Center.
Four persons were given the same award for various volunteer service
programs in the Baton Rouge area. Skip was honored to receive this
award. All recipients were interviewed on the "Red Carpet" and the
interview was included in a 30 min. special program that aired on Cox
Channel 4 in Baton Rouge.

In January 2001, just shortly
after retirement, Skip decided the team needed a web site. After
attending several courses and reading up on web site creation, Bracket
Masters web site
was created. The site
has grown from a one page site to over 175 pages of information and photos.
Each
team member has a page that they
can put anything they want to appear on their page. Several
members have multiple pages.
The site
has many photos of cars from around the Baton Rouge area and from race tracks where the team has participated in events.
When the site was started
(2001), we were happy to have 60-80 hits in a week. Now (2005), we
average over 100,000 hits per month! The site has not generated any revenue for
the team and we pay for all the web space, software and computers needed
to publish the site. The team just purchased a state of the art
computer with 19" flat panel monitor and a new camcorder. We also
purchased several software programs that will allow making video DVD's. It has been a lot of fun and as a result of this
site, Bracket Masters Racing Team is known all over the United States and we
get some hits from Canada and others countries. We take many photos at the
tracks where we appear. We have an
announcements page that keeps up with the local happenings at the tracks in our immediate area
and the places where we are going to run. We also have a Good
Racing Links page that has many
places to find answers to drag racing questions and just good information in
general. It seems that everyone has their favorite area of the web
site, and since we don't have a Table of Contents or an index, but people
seem to find there way around and find new areas of the site that they like
every time they visit. The people that bookmark and only visit their
bookmarks miss out on new additions from time to time.
The two things that we are
most proud of are; our
Jr. Dragster Kids
and our annual race, the
"Louisiana Drag Classic".
The LADC completed five years in 2004. The race was cancelled just
days before it was the be run in September 2005 due the Hurricane Katrina. The race
had gotten better each year
and we were trying to make it a little unique each time. We concentrate on the
local area for our racers, with a few people from out of town invited as our
special guests. We have given awards to local racers and
businesses that have made a significant contribution to the drag racing
community in the Baton Rouge area. We have rewarded persons who have supported our Bracket Masters Racing
Team in some valuable manner. We plan to continue having the Louisiana
Drag Classic and we may add other races to our schedule. During 2005,
we sponsored a race at Louisiana Raceway in Eunice, LA, which was a part of
the "Battle on the Bayou" series.
