1960 Pontiac Ventura Pro Street
"Big Momma" Racing
Johnell Redd has been active in drag racing since the early
1960's, owing the same Pontiac Ventura since those early years. He
is a business man, the owner of the Chatterbox Lounge in Baton
Rouge, entrepreneur and a mechanic. That's a very good
combination of skills to bring to a racing team.
Johnell in a valuable member of Bracket Masters Racing Team. His knowledge of business and racing brings
valuable insight to the meetings and he is ready to do anything necessary
to help the club.
Johnell works with youth by teaching them business and
mechanical skills. He thinks this will lead them away from the drugs
and violence we have seen in our neighborhoods in the last several
years. Johnell thinks education is the key to saving our
youth. Johnell's Son, Kedrick, is also a member of Bracket Masters
Racing Team. Kedrick is a welder, mechanic, and general all around
chassis man. He owns a Hot Shot delivery truck and works for
himself. Kedrick shows Johnell's influence and leadership in his own
family.
Johnell's 1960 Pontiac Ventura is in the process of changing to another phase
of its long lifetime. A new motor, a 598 CI Donovan, with Big Chief Heads,
is
being built to fill the enormous hood cavity and take the all steel
cruiser down the track. Watch out! This is not your normal
Pontiac,
so don't think it will be slow. Johnell is a big man and needs a big
car with a big motor to get "Big Momma" down the track.
This Pontiac warrior will be out to ambush a lot of Chevrolets, Fords and
Mopars. Lets be conservative and guess at low, low 9's for now,
until it hits the track.
8/11/02 - Johnell was at No
Problem Raceway Park with his little Grandson for the Baby Pro-Mod 1/8
mile race. The little boy sat in the Bracket Masters Jr. Dragster
and didn't want to get out. Grandpa was real happy all day showing
off, and taking care of, the Grandbaby.

1/3/2004 - Johnell and Ms. Edna Coats
hosted the team Christmas Party at Johnell's "Chatterbox
Lounge". Edna provided all the food, which was excellent!
We had Crawfish Etouffee, Roast Beef, Rice, Green Beans, Pound Cake,
Coconut Cake, Pralines, Brownies and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies plus salad
assorted fruit and it was all laid out in a beautiful
arrangement. The music was great, lots of dancing and
talking. The teammates enjoyed themselves and everyone wants to
"Do It Again" real soon.

December 26,2005
- Johnell and Ms. Edna Coats hosted
the team Christmas Party at Johnell's "Chatterbox Lounge". Edna
provided all the food, which was excellent! (Isn't this the same as last
party?) Well this one was even better! The menu this year was
roast beef, Honey Baked Ham, dirty rice, potato salad, green beans and green
salad. The many assorted cakes and pies were great! Everyone
enjoyed the party. We had approximately 35 members and guest.

Sept. 20, 2006 -
Johnell, Willie and Skip took a trip to No Problem Raceway Park to finalize
the Louisiana Drag Classic with Pat. We established the date for the
2007 Louisiana Drag Classic which will be, September 23, 2007.
Next year, the gates
will open later, time trials will start around Noon or 1 pm, and
eliminations will be later in the afternoon.
On the way back we
stopped by Joe Louis' Car Care on Highway 1 in Plaquemine, LA. This is
the home of "The Bayou
Boyz" racing team. Willie suggested we form an alliance
between the two organizations that would benefit both teams. Willie
envisions a group of racers in each of our respective
communities working with kids and community organizations on both sides of the river. We invited the Bayou
Boyz to become a part of our web site.
As Willie
mentioned on the radio show, there are a lot of racing groups in our
community, with some real nice cars, that could represent their groups in
some match races or team competition. We can run for points & or
trophies and keep the competition fun. Any money raised by our
organization would have a portion dedicated to helping our communities.
November 19, 2006 -
Johnell participated in the Katrina Toys for Kids Race at State Capitol

participated in the Board of Directors meeting
to determine how the team will distribute the toys collected during the
race, and to determine how the additional money will be spent to benefit
the children.
